How to Spot a Credit Repair Scam
When your credit score is bad, credit repair is the only solution for you. Majority of people seek assistance while some of you do it on your own. You should know how to check the genuineness of the company if you are planning to seek help.
The legitimate companies are governed by the law call Credit Repair Organization Act.
You should be well aware of the rights you have and any company who breaches the rules is possibly a scam.
How you can tell if this is a credit repair scam or not;
If you are not provided with a leaflet which states your rights under the federal and state laws, then the credit repair company is a scam.
You must be able to read and evaluate the copy they have, before you are requested to sign anything.
The contract must specify the amount of money you will be charged for their services, the kind of services they will provide, the date of completion and the name and address of the company. The clause stating that you can cancel the contract within three days must be mentioned.
According to the Credit Organization Act, the company is only paid after it has provided its services in assisting you to repair your credit. If the credit company asks you to pay in advance, then it’s a scam.
The company is certainly a fraud, if they assure you that they can get rid of anything in you credit report. If they are unable to do so they may even tell you that they can assist you in generating a new federal employer identification number which evidently is an offense.
Last but not the least, if they ask you to sign a piece of paper which states that you give up your rights under the CROA or Credit Repair Organization Act, the company is a scam.
Apart from certain things that a credit company can do for you, improving your credit is not in the hands. You owe money to you creditors therefore this is something that only you can do.

To rectify the wrong information in the credit report, you need to send a letter along with the supporting documents stating that the issues have been resolved to the crediting agency, without assistance of the credit repair company.
In case you come across an illegal credit repair company asking you to many payment upfront, hiding your rights as a consumers, want you to waive of you rights or asks you to do anything against the law, walk off and report the matter to the authorities. After that, resume your search for a genuine company.
Check with Better Business Bureau and other agencies in your area liable for preventing frauds, if the company is authentic or not. Nobody wants to become a victim but when you are desperate you fall prey to such companies.
