Pain upper left back
The pain that is in the upper left side back is also called the middle back pain, left upper back pain and thoracic pain. It is called thoracic pain because the higher portion of the spine is linked to the thoracic or chest region. The pain usually occurs in the middle of the bottom of the neck and the higher region of the lumbar spine. The area that is most prone in the upper portion of the back area is the trapezius which contains triangular shaped muscles and the shoulder blades as well.
There are various causes of upper left side back pain. Most cases of it are caused by the erosion of the muscles of the back. Another cause can be a nerve in the neck or thoracic region of the spine is squeezed because of the swollen disc or what is more known as arthritis. The vertebrae which gets distressed with osteoporosis or the damage of the bones is another cause of pain in the upper left side back. The bones become very weak that they cannot bear to carry the spine itself. The other possible causes are injuries which are due to accidents and falls that have contributed serious pain to the muscles of the upper back. The overuse of muscles in the upper back and weak posture can also provide stress on the joints and ligaments. For example, painters who are required to work in very awkward stances while painting high places like the ceiling usually experience upper back pain. Even women who have larger breasts also have the hard time standing straight. This can cause pain in the upper back of the body. People who have heart problems also suffer from pain in the upper back part of the neck.
Pain in the upper left side of the back that is caused by mechanical problem like strain, overwork, and even wrong posture can be treated easily if these steps are followed:
First, you need to massage the strained area. Massage it deeply for around a minute or two in every hour. Then extend the hand across the opposite shoulder and massage the afflicted spot.
The second step is to knead the trapezius muscles just the same way as a cat rubs its paws. You can do it on your own or have someone do it for you.
Third, use your elbow. You can ask a friend of yours to put pressure on the tender area as gentle as he or she can using his or her elbow for a little while and repeating it again for a few times. The pressure stops the stream of blood and the movement of oxygen transporting the blood. After this, the muscles will be more relaxed.
The fourth step is to keep a correct posture. When your posture is wrong, the muscles are damaged and weakened and could no longer carry the mass of the back. You need to be cautious of your stance while sitting, sleeping, standing, walking or working.
Fifth, you need to wear a sports bra. Women who have large breasts should wear sports bra all the time in order to sustain the shoulders and the neck.
You can be ensured of a better upper left side back once you start following these steps. Aside from lack of pain, your posture and movement will be much improved.
