Stress Manifestation
Stress leaves an appalling effect on us physically and psychologically. Quite a lot of people comes face to face with stressful situations and are diagnosed with anxiety disorders. There are arrays of symptoms that are taken in by anxiety disorders. One thing that is common in every type of anxiety disorder is that the person suffering from the disorder is always keen to be in command of of his or her surroundings.
It is believed that obsessive compulsive disorder is inherited despite the fact that it is a common reaction to stress. There is a discovery stating that a particular gene is responsible for this disorder. Therefore an individual whose family has a history of psychosomatic problems is more prone to suffer from such disorders. So while responding to stress do we consider it a genetic condition or a learned condition?
It is very hard to have power over obsessive thoughts for a person who is suffering from obsessive compulsive disorder. Such people at all times believe that they are out of control and to overcome this feeling they go through a sequence of rituals. After going through all these compulsions, they get a feeling that they are in control of their surroundings. It could be repeatedly washing their hands, locking and re locking doors, or even praying all the time. These strong desires make them feel that they have power over their environment.
Anorexia Nervosa is alike Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. In this case, a woman suffering from this disorder would convince herself to be over weight and have nothing to eat to such an extent that she could die. The reason behind this drastic step is that she has a strong desire to control something within her surroundings which she believes is out of control. Quite a number of young women show signs of Anorexia when they join college because their routine is disrupted which stresses them out.
The term General Anxiety Disorder is referred to a situation where a person goes through severe anxiety. But it does not come beneath the category of Social Anxiety Disorder where a person is scared of social situations, Anorexia, or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. A person suffering from General Anxiety Disorder is not aware of his or her condition until they end up in an emergency room of a hospital thinking that he or she is having a heart attack. The symptoms of a heart attack are similar to an anxiety attack or a panic attack and the root of this problem is stress.
Stress generally manifests itself into anxiety and/or depression. Anxiety manifests itself into a lot of ways, such as Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and Anorexia. If a person is under depression, he or she never enjoys anything that is happening in his or her life, which if not taken care of might be very critical.
In the last twenty years we are witnessing a large number of suicide cases. Most of these cases, it is the teenagers or younger children who are committing suicides. In the past before 1980 there were hardly any cases of suicides but presently there has been quite a few stories of school kids killing themselves and others. This is heart-rending because they had their whole life in front of them. They did it under some kind of stress. Most of the times these kids inflict stress themselves just because they either did not get admitted to their favorite college or they didn’t get good grades at school. It is very tragic that teenagers end their lives because they believed they are not fit for this world.
Stress not only causes mental problems but can also result in physical problems. Stress has also been related to heart disease and is it is one of the major causes of high blood pressure, heart attack and stroke. An individual under stress is more likely to get sick with cold or flu. Our immune system is also affected by stress and in some cases it has been linked to certain types of cancer as well.
It is very difficult for an individual to overcome stress in their lives but there are ways to tackle it. We have to learn these techniques to save ourselves from physical and psychological damages. We will come face to face with stress throughout our lives so it will be healthier for us to react in a positive manner. We have to be in command of our behavior and eliminate stress out of our lives.
