What is stress?

Stress is an invasion on our serene life. Every one of us struggles to live a decent peaceful life. We succeed to a certain point when we get into certain routines. We humans are all animals. If you are a dog owner you must have seen them doing well when they are on a particular routine. Every day you take your dog on a walk on a particular time, you feed them on a certain time and they also sleep at a certain time. So your animal adapts that daily routine set by you.

If by any chance that routine is broken your dog is more likely to behave in a destructive or disturbed manner. The reason for these incidents is that your dog is stresses out.

We humans act in a similar manner. Parents must have observed that their siblings behave much better if they have on a set routine. If you are running your household in an uncontrolled way your kids might also act in the similar manner. Having a routine gives children a sense of security and this is what any kid would want.

A lot of people complain that their kid’s do not go to bed on time but it is the parents duty to set a everyday routine for their kids to go to bed. Parents end up yelling at their children or even threaten them to go to bed on time. This can be avoided by simply setting up a bedtime routine. A bedtime story or milk and chocolates might help and the children will always look forward to bedtime. Kids can feel a sense of security and that is what they want in their lives.

Everyone today wants a secure and safe life but the things are not the same when we get old. Certain incidents takes place in everybody’s life and that leads to stress. We overcome some incidents but the others we can’t. A lot of people are lucky to escape stress until adulthood and others face it at a young age. There are foreign factors that make us feel stressed out but sometimes we invite stress on our own.

Following are some factors that cause stress:

Death of a loved one

It is very difficult to face a death of our loved ones which can be a spouse, parent, child or a friend. This causes major stress and we can do nothing about it but face it. There are people who recover from this stress and move on but there are others who can never pull through. The loss of a loved one leads to grave illnesses including depression. The death of a child is something that is hard to bear and is unforgettable for the parents. Eventually they have to move for the sake of their family. This is one of the worst stresses one can endure and people never recover from it.

Divorce

It doesn’t matter if we are happy to leave our partner; it still is one of the major stressor on our lives. Not only the couple is stressed out by a divorce, their children are also affected by it. Parents are so tense during this situation that they forget that their kids are also suffering. Children are blown away by their parent’s decision irrespective of their age. Younger kids are more stressed out that the older kids because they cannot put their emotions into words. They cannot understand what is the reason behind their parents separation. They might hold themselves responsible for this separation.

Kids are shaken over their parents divorce and they will definitely feel stress. There is a possibility that such stressed out children might face psychological disorders or even anxiety. Such conditions break the routine and the children doesn’t feel safe, so they start looking for ways to lessen the stress and take control over their lives by developing a disorder such as anorexia. It is advisable to see a counsellor if the parents are going through a divorce.

Moving

Moving from a shack to a palace is stressful because it breaks your routine. Though it is a happy occasion but disruption of your routine will eventually cause stress. It is very uneasy to pack your stuff and move to a new place for the entire family. Packing and unpacking can really get on your nerves. A lot of us cannot afford to hire someone to do the packing for us so it tends to be stressful. It does take time to settle at your new home but you should always try to retain your usual routine, especially if you have kids.

Major Illness

It is quite a lot of stress for your family if you going through any major illness. You may not feel stressed out with your illness, it is your family that is feeling the heat. A major illness can go on for years and that is the worst stressor for you and the people emotionally attached to you.

You go under depression if you have a major illness because you life is affected with it. There are some people who start taking drugs, alcohol to lessen stress which apparently dose not help at all rather it turns your family against you. You are stressed out even more. To cope with illness of their parents some youngsters turn to drugs, alcohol or even immoral sex.

Job Loss

Loosing a job is not only embarrassing, but it also put you into a financial crisis resulting in depression and anxiety. This attacks your personality and also leaves you without any money. This might put you under stress until you find a new job or you learn to survive with a smaller amount of money.

Your lifestyle is dislocated along with your monetary position until you dig up your bearings. Uncertainty of finding a job is one big factor that makes you stressed out. Even finding a new job is very traumatic.

Sometimes we desire for a better job with a higher pay check or for any other reason. Even that is measured as a stress factor. For a lot of people working in a new place is very stressful, the reason being breaking our routine. Therefore, you break your routine you are inviting stress.

In our society there are some major stress factors we come across. Some happy moments of your life such as a child birth, marriage, or a new job leads to stress because they disrupt your way of life.

All types of stress factors mentioned above have one thing in common; they disrupt our lives and our routine. Any sort of changes that happen in our lives, it doesn’t matter it is good or bad, it causes stress.

We must remember that we will face changes in our lives, so we are going to experience stressful situations. It all depends on us, how we are going to overcome these stressful situations and how well we can handle stress.
